From a storage facility in a railway carriage...
The story about how FELDER GMBH was established is something of a fairy tale: In 1979 the company’s founders,Wilhelm Priester and Uwe Felder, started the machine production of different types of soldering wire and flux for wholesale businesses in the sanitary/heating, welding technology, tools and auto accessory sectors. A disused railway carriage in a siding at the Duisburg goods yard served as a storage facility. The constant expansion of the product range and the resulting acquisition of more machines soon led to an acute shortage of space. The addition of a second carriage provided a temporary respite. Before too long, however, everything was bursting at the seams again. In 1981 the company’s founders managed to lease an old storage depot of around 250 square metres from German Rail which allowed production to be expanded. Storage space was also increased by the acquisition of further railway carriages.
... to a modern commercial enterprise
Temporary arrangements have to end sometime. Commercial success and a constantly expanding customer base – especially in the sanitary, heating and climate sectors – demanded proper production facilities with room for further expansion. As we could not find any suitable sites in Duisburg, we moved into newly constructed and operational premises in Oberhausen in 1986. The 4,500-square-metre site, with its spacious manufacturing and storage facilities, a modern and well-equipped laboratory and ample office space, offered everything that would quickly transform FELDER GMBH into a modern, medium-sized business with customers at home and abroad. Today we are one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of high-purity solders and soldering accessories, and by participating in many international trade fairs we have now established a presence in almost all European countries as well as further abroad.
